Tjentište Spomenik Monument

Designed by Miodrag Živković, this massive concrete monument honours the Partisan breakthrough against Axis forces. Its two 19-meter wings represent the moment they escaped encirclement. In the Yugoslav era, this was the most significant Second World War memorial in the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Sutjeska Memorial House

This memorial house features a striking modernist design with pointed roofs resembling mountain peaks. Inside are 13 frescoes by Krsto Hegedušić depicting the battle alongside the names of 7,356 fallen soldiers. Your guide will explain the artwork and translate the inscriptions within this unique glass-and-concrete space.

Battle of Sutjeska Museum

The exhibition that used to be housed in the basement of the Memorial House has been moved to a separate building after its partial destruction in the Bosnian War of the 1990s. Among the surviving exhibits we find Partisan and Axis uniforms and weapons, along with an explanation of the main events of the Battle of Sutjeska.

Youth Camp Tjentište

In the Yugoslav era, Tjentište served as an outdoor classroom for school excursions and youth brigades. It was designed to teach the vision of a new society based on "brotherhood and unity." To accommodate the thousands of visitors, the complex was equipped with a campsite, a youth hotel, and an enormous outdoor swimming pool.

National Park Sutjeska

As a socialist brochure from the 1980s solemnly notes about the Sutjeska National Park: “here every piece of soil, every stone—is a monument”. And as such the entire Sutjeska area was established as Bosnia-Herzegovina’s oldest national park in 1962, flanked by the Zelengora mountains to the west and the Perućica primeval forest and Mount Maglić to the east. Throughout this protected area of wild nature, another 79 monuments remind visitors of the Sutjeska Battle and we visit the most significant ones.

Miljevina Motel

En route back to Sarajevo, we make an urban explorer stop at the devastated brutalist-style Miljevina Motel. On the Tjentište road, at the outskirts of Miljevina, this roadside motel was built to support visitors to the Sutjeska National Park. During the Bosnian War of the 1990s, it was used as the HQ of the Miljevina Crisis Committee, which was responsible for war crimes here and in the wider area.
